UTM campaigns
With UTM parameters on your links, you see in the dashboard which campaigns bring visitors. You don’t have to set anything up.
Tag your links
UTM parameters are extra bits at the end of a URL that describe the source, medium and campaign of a link. Lienks reads these three:
utm_source– where the link is placed, for examplenewsletterutm_medium– the channel, for exampleemailutm_campaign– the name of the campaign, for examplespring_sale
Add them to the link you share:
https://example.com/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spring_sale This all happens in the link you distribute. You don’t need to change anything in Lienks or on your website.
See the results
The dashboard has two cards:
- Campaigns – results by source, medium or campaign, which you switch right in the table header. For example, you can see whether social brings more than email overall.
- Campaign details – every combination of source, medium and campaign on its own, so you see how individual links perform.
How it is counted
- Pageviews are counted, in all three tracking modes.
- Lienks reads the parameters only from the URL of the page being viewed. Nothing is stored on the visitor’s device, neither a cookie nor local storage.
- A campaign is therefore attributed to the pageview whose URL contains the parameters, usually your landing page. If the visitor then goes to another page of your website, those URLs no longer carry the parameters and aren’t counted for the campaign. Link to the page you want to measure.
- Values are cut off at 100 characters. Empty values are ignored. Other UTM parameters (
utm_term,utm_content) are not recorded.
Tips
- Use exactly the same spelling for a campaign every time, so its visits end up in one row.
- Choose descriptive values you’ll recognise in the dashboard right away.
