Data collection

Lienks only records what the statistics need. Some of it you can switch off per site.

What every event contains

  • the site, the time and the event name (pageview or custom event)
  • the page path, without the query string
  • the referrer (where the visitor came from)
  • the UTM values utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, if they are in the URL
  • whether it comes from a known bot

Depending on the tracking mode there is also a pseudonymous visitor identifier: none in Minimal, a daily one in Cookieless, a hash of the cookie ID in Cookie (Tracking modes).

The script also reads the page’s favicon so the dashboard can show it. That belongs to the website, not to the visitor.

Optional data (per site)

In the site settings there are four switches:

  • Browser – the browser, derived from the user agent
  • Operating System – the operating system, derived from the user agent
  • Device Type – the device type, derived from the user agent
  • Country – the country, determined from the IP address via GeoIP, without storing the IP (GeoIP database by MaxMind)

All four are off until you switch them on. Switched-off fields aren’t stored at all.

What Lienks does not store

  • IP addresses: they are only held briefly in memory for the country lookup and the Cookieless identifier, never in the database.
  • No browser fingerprinting, and no linking of visits across days or websites.
  • No additional data on events: custom events carry only a name.

Bot traffic

Known bots are recognised (always on, there is no switch), kept out of your statistics and don’t count towards your event allowance.

Which domain can send data

Events are only accepted from the domain saved for the site (www. is ignored). All other requests are silently discarded. If nothing shows up, see Troubleshooting.

Your data

  • You can delete a site with all its data in the settings (Delete Site). This is permanent and includes all recorded events.
  • You can share your dashboard via a link, but you don’t have to. Sharing is off by default (Share your dashboard).

Privacy policy helper

Under Privacy in the site settings, the app generates a text block for your privacy policy (Privacy Policy tab) based on the actual configuration. See Consent.
