A simple alternative to Google Analytics

Lienks shows you the numbers you actually look at, clearly on one page. Cookieless by default, with servers in Germany.

Why many people look for a Google Analytics alternative

Google Analytics can do a lot. For many small websites, that is more than they need.

Since GA4 there are many reports, settings and terms of its own. If you just want a quick look at how your website is doing, you have to click through a lot first.

Google Analytics also sets cookies. For that you usually need consent, which means a cookie banner. Visitors who decline the banner are missing from your stats. And your visitors' data ends up with Google.

Most of the time you only want to answer a few simple questions: How many people visited, where did they come from and which pages did they look at?

How Lienks does it

Everything on one page. One clear dashboard instead of many reports. You see right away what is happening on your website.

Cookieless by default. In its default mode, Lienks stores nothing on your visitors' devices. I explain how this works on the Cookieless Web Analytics page.

Servers in Germany. All data is stored on Hetzner servers in Germany.

What you still see

The most important numbers from Google Analytics are in Lienks too: pageviews, visitors, sources, campaigns, events, countries and devices, all on one page. Here is a part of the dashboard:

What Lienks deliberately does not do

Lienks is not a tool for following individual people. So there are a few things you may know from Google Analytics that Lienks does not have:

  • Lienks does not recognize visitors across days. So you will not see whether someone comes back next week.
  • There are no user profiles and no data about age, gender or interests.
  • Lienks is not connected to any ad networks.

This is on purpose. Lienks should show you what happens on your website, not who exactly is there.

A privacy-friendly Google Analytics alternative

Privacy is one of the main reasons people move away from Google Analytics. With Lienks, privacy is not a setting you have to find. It is the default.

In cookieless mode, which every new website starts with, Lienks stores nothing on your visitors' devices. No cookies, no localStorage. Visitors are only recognized within a single day, so Lienks never builds a history of a person over time.

IP addresses are not stored in the analytics data. If you turn on countries, only the country code is kept, for example "DE". All data is stored on Hetzner servers in Germany.

This makes web analytics under the GDPR a lot simpler. You still need a legal basis and a note in your privacy policy, because every browser sends its IP address when a page loads. I explain this in more detail in my article Do I need a cookie banner for web analytics?. This is not legal advice.

You can find what else you need on the GDPR-compliant web analytics page.

Made for people with more than one website

Many people who look for a Google Analytics alternative do not run just one website. They have a few side projects, client websites, or a blog next to their product. I run several websites myself, and I built Lienks for exactly this.

Every plan includes unlimited websites and unlimited team members. You choose a monthly event limit for your account, and you can add as many websites as you want. A new side project does not cost anything extra.

Each website gets its own dashboard, and you choose the tracking mode for each website separately. You can see all plans on the pricing page.

Switching from Google Analytics only takes a few minutes

Add this script to the <head> of your website:

<script defer src="https://app.lienks.com/a.js" data-site="YOUR-SITE-ID"></script>

If you like, you can run both tools side by side for a while and compare the numbers. Then remove the Google Analytics script.

Your existing data from Google Analytics is not imported. Lienks starts counting from the moment you add the script.
